Adult Mental Health and Substance Use Services - Central Island
Addictions / Substance Use, Mental Health - Adult & Senior, and Mental Health - Child & Youth

- Screening and assessment
- Referrals to the most appropriate service, team or community resource
- Connection to mental health and substance use services such as counselling, group therapy, withdrawal management (detox) and information about community resources
- Available for individuals aged 19+ years old living in the Nanaimo (Central Island) area
- Self-refer by calling to schedule an appointment during the week between 10:00 AM - 3:00 PM with the intake assessment team
- Walk-in referrals from individuals and referrals from clinicians, community agencies and health and social services professionals are also accepted.
- Walk-in Crisis Counselling Clinic(previously Drop-in Crisis Counselling Clinic) offers single-session crisis counselling free of charge to ALL ages. No appointment is necessary; walk-in between 10:00 AM - 5:15 PM Monday through Friday.
- Community Outreach Response "COR" team provides rapid, mobile, community-based response to all age groups including children, youth and families in crisis.
- Substance Use Services Outreach (SUSO) team provides home withdrawal management services for individuals with Alcohol Use Disorder, Opiate Use Disorder, or Stimulant Use Disorder. Program is intended to support individuals with mild to moderate withdrawal symptoms and low risk of withdrawal-related complications.
- Crisis and Emergency Services are provided by the Community Response Team for adults who may be suicidal or in a psychiatric crisis. Request assistance by calling 24-Hour Vancouver Island Crisis Line 1-888-494-3888. Younger individuals who call will be connected to appropriate services.
