Family Capacity Program - Parenting Skill Building - Cowichan Valley Branch

Supports and promotes improvement in parenting through skill building.
The Family Capacity Program aims to promote a healthy family environment that supports children's growth and development into healthy adults. The program assists parents by building skills in consistency, structure, and communication to strengthen relationships with their children. This is complemented by education on children's developmental, emotional, and attachment needs. With this knowledge, parents gain a better understanding of behaviors and learn how to apply appropriate strategies and skills.

The program offers skill-building and education in the following areas:
  • Assertive parenting skills
  • Positive communication
  • Managing anger and defiance
  • Promoting positive behaviours
  • Understanding misbehaviours
  • Developmental needs
  • Understanding ADHD and anxiety
  • Parenting as teamwork
  • Shared parenting during separation and divorce
  • Conflict resolution
  • Building positive relationships
This program is funded by the Ministry of Children and Family Development.
