Primary Care Program with Telehealth - Carrier and Sekani First Nations Communities

Provides primary care medical services to the seven Carrier Sekani First Nations communities, complemented by a Telehealth program that allows patients to consult with professionals via video conferencing.
The CSFS Primary Care program provides their community members with basic day-to-day care provided by health professionals, including family doctors, nurse practitioners, public health nurses, pharmacists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, etc.

Medical services are provided through an Indigenous lens, and also provide numerous culture centred programs and services to complement their Primary Care medical services. Doctors, nurse practitioners and other primary care health staff receive training on culturally relevant approaches to health care to ensure that patients receive health services that meet their unique needs.

Services offered include:
  • Assessments and physical exams
  • Medication prescriptions and monitoring
  • Chronic disease care
  • Pre and post-natal education and care, children's growth and development,
  • Vaccinations
  • Men's and women's age and disease specific health screening, elders’ health, , and coordination to specialized health services outside of community.
Primary Care is complimented by the Tele-health program, which provides video teleconferencing ability for patients to meet with professionals while they are in their home community. Using this technology ensures a continuity of care for clients, and timely medical interventions and treatments.

Primary Care medical services are available in Takla, Yekooche, Nadleh, Saik'uz, Stellat'en, Nee Tahi Buhn, Cheslatta, Skin Tyee, Burns Lake Band, Wet'suwet'en and in Prince George.

YU BE-YAH CLINIC:
Carrier Sekani Family Services has recently opened up a clinic in Prince George called ‘Yu Be-yah’ which means Medicine House in Carrier language. The clinic meets the primary care needs of Indigenous peoples living in Prince George who do not have a primary care provider. Yu Be-Yah is staffed by two family nurse practitioners that provide comprehensive clinical care including the diagnosis and management of disease/illness, prescribing medications, ordering/interpreting laboratory/diagnostic tests, and initiating referrals to specialists. The waitlist is full at this time, to inquire please contact the Yu Be-yah clinic.

NURSING:
Registered Nurses provide preventative holistic health & wellness services and education in the member nation communities on regularly scheduled days and times. Nurses at CSFS collaborate with Physicians, Specialists and Community Health Representatives, Home Care as well as other allied health professionals to ensure an integrated approach to wellness for community members. Some services include pre and post-natal education and care, immunization programs for infants and children, health education to meet the changing healthcare needs in each community, men's and women's wellness clinics, and regular home visits to elders to assess their changing needs and provide ongoing support.
