Health and Wellness Counselling Program - For Children, Youth, and Families

Provided by Carrier Sekani Family Services

Offer counselling services for children, youth, adults, and their families when they are experiencing serious challenges. Child and youth clients are between 6-19 years of age, although exceptions can be made.
Professional counsellors provide mental health consultation, assessment and treatment services within a Carrier and Sekani cultural framework. The professional clinical team includes Mental Health Clinicians (Master’s level) and Mental Health Support Workers (Bachelor’s level).

This program serves:
  • Child and Youth Mental Health (CYMH) provides services to children, youth and their families/caregivers for our member nations. This is typically for children between the ages 6-19 years of age
  • Community Mental Health (CMH) clinicians provide on and off-reserve services to 10 of our Member Nations - Saik’uz First Nation; Burns Lake Band; Cheslatta Carrier Nation; Wet’suwet’en First Nation; Skin Tyee Nation; Nee Tahi Buhn First Nation; Stellat’en First Nation; Nadleh Whut’en First Nation; Yekooche First Nation and Takla First Nation.
  • Community Health Program provides services to adults from our member nations with Indian status. Additionally, we provide crisis intervention services to assist communities when a crisis overwhelms the regular resources
Available support services include:
  • Individual therapy – in person and virtual
  • Group work (therapeutic groups and psycho-educational groups) – in-person and virtual
  • Crisis intervention response (when feasible and appropriate), during core hours
  • Workshop facilitation based on specific topic areas and community need: CYMH/CMH
  • Referral to additional specialized services (local, regional and provincial) with informed consent.
  • Collaborative practice with community nations and partners
