Aboriginal Supported Child Development

Provided by Carrier Sekani Family Services

Supports children and youth (aged 0-18) with developmental delays, with or without a diagnosis.
The Aboriginal Supported Child Development (ASCD) program supports any children or youth from 0-18 years old with developmental delays, including speech and language delays, fine motor delays, gross motor delays, cognitive delays, and social, emotional and behavioural delays.

Children do not need a diagnosis to access the ASCD programs; however, some children already may have diagnosis such as down syndrome, cerebral palsy, autism spectrum disorder, fetal alcohol spectrum disorder (FASD), deaf or hard of hearing, visually impaired, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), speech disorders such as apraxia, and complex health care needs, and are welcome to receive supports.

The goals of the program are for children with developmental delays to:
  • Receive support in developing their skills
  • Receive one-on-one support throughout their early childhood, when needed
  • Receive timely assessments, when applicable
Referral Process:
  • For children, youth, and families with special needs living in Takla, Yekooche, Stellaquo, Saik'uz, Fraser Lake, Vanderhoof, and Nadleh Whut'en. Children without diagnosis are also welcome to receive supports.
  • Any family or care providers who are concerned that a child has a developmental delay in any domain may refer children to the ASCD program.
  • Referrals from professionals must have parental consent.
The referral form can be accessed by clicking here, or alternatively through the CSFS Vanderhoof office.
