Offers assessment and treatment services for individuals experiencing cognitive challenges related to substance use, including alcohol.
The Cognitive Assessment and Rehabilitation for Substance Use (CARSU) program offers assessment and treatment services for individuals experiencing cognitive challenges related to substance use, including alcohol. CARSU help individuals with cognitive impairment and their support person(s) to have a better understanding of their needs and teaches strategies to improve their quality of life. A patient does not have to be abstinent from substances to participate in this program. Services provided include:
  • Assessment: Learn about the brain's strengths and weaknesses to be more functional in daily life.
  • Treatment: Improve thinking skills by doing brain exercises, strategy and lifestyle improvements.
  • Consultation: Stay connected with current support network(s) in the community. Linkage to extra support can be made if needed.


Outreach and In-person Services available only to Vancouver and Richmond residents. Virtual services are available to residents across Vancouver Coastal Health.
