Community Health Centre (CHC) - Chemainus Health & Urgent Care Centre

Offers a variety of health care services for those in the Chemainus area including urgent care, laboratory services, and medical imaging/radiology.
The Chemanius Health & Urgent Care Centre offers a wide range of services all accessible from one location for the community and surrounding area. Services include urgent care, long-term care and information, laboratory services as well as medical imaging and radiology.

The Chemanius Health Centre provides the following services:
  • Adult Day Programs
  • Local Long-Term Care information
  • Laboratory Services accessible by the text-based waitlist or online booking
  • The Mobile Mammogram Clinic comes to the CHCC twice a year; call 1-800-663-9203
  • Allied Health Care such as physiotherapy, held Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM by appointment. Call 250-737-2040 ext. 42241
  • Medical Imaging and Radiology which requires a physician/nurse practitioner requisition for any diagnostic tests (x-ray, bone mineral density services)
  • Lifeline works with CHCC Auxiliary to deliver home-based monitoring and alert systems for people living in Chemanius, Saltair, and the Crofton areas. Call 250-246-3883 for more information
  • Meals-on-Wheels works with CHCC Auxiliary to delivery meals to homes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Friday.

The Chemanius Urgent Care Centre treats urgent non-life-threatening illnesses or injuries needing immediate same-day care. NO overnight admittance; transfer to a larger centre will be arranged if needed. Serious but not life-threatening health issues include the following:
  • Coughs, colds, and sore throat
  • Ear infections, other infections or abscesses
  • Pregnancy testing and options
  • STI testing and treatment
  • Support and care after sexual assault
  • Urinary tract infections (also available through pharmacy)
  • Allergic reactions or asthma (call 911 immediately if experiencing difficulty breathing)
  • Skin conditions including rashes, skin irritation, minor wounds or itchy spots
  • Stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and constipation
  • Minor illnesses, fevers or infections in children
  • Minor injuries such as sprains, strains, cuts requiring stitches, suture removal, and stabilization for hospital transport

Accessing These Services
  • The Urgent Care Centre provides walk-in care ONLY. When the patient arrives, a nurse/doctor will assess how urgent the condition is and will be seen based on need — not the arrival time. Check opening times or call prior to arriving, in case the clinic is at capacity and no longer accepting patients that day.
  • Laboratory hours of operation are Monday through Friday 8:00 AM - 3:30 PM, closed 12:00 PM - 12:30 PM, weekends and statutory holidays.
  • Medical Imaging X-Ray appointments are available Monday through Friday 8:00 AM - 5:15 PM. A tech is on call during weekends and statutory holidays from 8:00 AM - 11:00 PM. Please bring physician/nurse practitioner requisition when booking/to the appointment.
  • Medical Radiology Bone Mineral Density appointments are only offered on Mondays and Thursdays from 8:00 AM - 3:30 PM. Please bring physician/nurse practitioner requisition when booking/to the appointment.
