Diabetes Education Program - Central Okanagan
Caregiver Support, Condition Specific Support, Pregnancy Care, and Public Health
Provided by Interior Health
Services are offered in a team approach, which puts you and your family at the centre of your care. Nurses, dietitians and physicians with specific training and expertise in the area of diabetes management will work with you, your family/support partners, family physician and members of your broader healthcare team to support your ongoing and changing medical and self-management diabetes care needs. Services may include helping patients:
- Learn more about diabetes
- Manage their insulin
- Be successful with diabetes-related goals and action plans
- Manage their vascular risk factors
- Manage and assist with self management of diabetes technology including pump therapy and CGM.
Patients are encouraged to see their FP regularly for ongoing diabetes care and management.
Referral: - Referrals must have a diagnosis of diabetes.
- Please specify on referral sheet if you would like to have Medical Advisor or Nurse Practitioner review medication management.
- New diagnosis of Type 2 diabetes are generally put into classes unless they are not suitable.
Pediatric, and pump information education is unavailable at the Kelowna May Bennett Wellness Centre, and the West Kelowna Health Unit.
