Indigenous Housing Support Program

Provided by Fraser River Indigenous Society (FRIS)

Specialized approach for those that are homeless or at risk of homelessness for the Urban Indigenous peoples of Pitt Meadows/Maple Ridge area.
Persons with Indigenous heritage are more likely to be homeless than others, and regularly experience stigma, a feeling of being disconnected from their communities and heritage, and the results of inter-generational trauma from decades of negative residential school experiences. This makes returning to housing and life stability exceptionally difficult and requires a person-centred, culturally sensitive approach.

FRIS Support Workers specialize in this approach, and operate a housing support program for those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. This program emphasizes the importance of housing as a first need to meet and provides a wealth of support to promote long-term stability and success after that.

The FRIS team also supports other programs in the community that work to connect individuals with First Nations, Metis or Inuit heritage with cultural supports and counselling.

Call the FRIS Support Workers at 604-458-0150 to connect with this program or confirm the location of the next drop-in session.

If you have a space to rent in the Ridge Meadows or Langley areas, FRIS's Housing First program can connect you to reliable tenants - contact FRIS for more information.
