Hospital Transfers - Lower Mainland

Provided by Hospital Transfers

Provides safe, reliable non - emergency transportation for medically stable patients.
Provides hospital transfers in the Lower Mainland. Service hours are 7 days per week from 6:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Advance notice is needed for service outside of the hours indicated. Appointments can be made one day, or even two months, in advance. Please note: all private patient bookings require a minimum of 24 hours' notice.

Wheelchair Transfers: Patients who can sit upright in a Wheelchair can be transferred by a one-person transfer crew using our Wheelchairs, a facility-provided Wheelchair, or a patient-provided Wheelchair that is suitable for transport.

Stretcher Transfers: Patients who are bed-bound or are unable to sit upright can be transferred by a two-person transfer crew using our specialized Stretcher & Stair Chair equipment. Patients who are unable to walk up or down stairs at a pick up or drop off location are also required to travel by Stretcher.

Ambulatory Transfers: Patients who are ambulatory or semi-ambulatory, but still require specialist care and attention, can be transferred by either a one-person or two-person transfer crew using most of our available vehicles.

Family Escorts: When possible, family members may also accompany patients for additional support and companionship during Stretcher, Wheelchair, or Ambulatory transfers.

Medical Escorts: With the exception of low-flow oxygen, patients travelling with medical equipment that cannot be disconnected during the journey typically require a medical escort. These patients are often accompanied by RNs, LPNs, RTs, HCAs and other licensed medical professionals.

Pricing: For BC residents, the same criteria apply to journeys with Hospital Transfers as it does to a transfer with BC Ambulance, but at a lower cost. When booked by a Health Authority, if the journey is not between one acute hospital and another, a BC Ambulance transfer is subject to a subsidized Ministry of Health-mandated user fee of $80, regardless of the time or distance. Any person on Income Assistance or MSP Premium Assistance (Supplementary Benefits) is automatically exempt. The same requirement applies to Hospital Transfers, except a lower fee of $50 would be applied, in which case an invoice would be sent approximately 3-4 weeks after the journey. Please note that Transfers from the community, including private pay transfers, are not eligible for the subsidized Ministry of Health-mandated user fee of $50, and would be charged at the current regular rate.
